The Hermetic Alphabet was created and produced as a limited edition portfolio at Light Work in Syracuse New York during an artist residency in 2003. Inspired by Victor Hugo’s A Hieroglyphic Alphabet and his statement: “Human society, the world, all mankind exists within the alphabet…..”, the Hermetic Alphabet combines photographs I made all over the world, while traveling over a ten year period, with the projectory of a found, three dimensional alphabet. It collides the evolutionary timeline of man, speeding toward an uncertain future, with the finite predictability of A-Z.
